Things to See in Tokyo Disney Resort

Two parks, one new land and the things worth knowing about each.

The sights

Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Resort

Tokyo Disneyland

Seven themed lands around Cinderella Castle. Highlights include the Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast, Pooh’s Hunny Hunt — a trackless ride original to Tokyo — and the classic mountains. The daytime parade and the electrical night parade are major draws.

ℹ️ Usually open about 9:00–21:00, varying by day. Date-specific 1-day tickets with variable pricing. Five minutes’ walk from Maihama Station. Allow a full day.

Tokyo DisneySea, Tokyo Disney Resort

Tokyo DisneySea

Eight themed ports around a lagoon. It is more atmospheric and slightly more grown-up than Disneyland, with attractions such as Journey to the Center of the Earth, Soaring: Fantastic Flight and Tower of Terror, and alcohol on sale in its restaurants.

ℹ️ Usually open about 9:00–21:00. Separate ticket from Disneyland. One stop from Maihama on the Disney Resort Line, or a 15–20 minute walk. Allow a full day.

Fantasy Springs, Tokyo Disney Resort

Fantasy Springs

DisneySea’s largest expansion, opened in June 2024: Frozen Kingdom, Rapunzel’s Forest and Peter Pan’s Never Land, with four new rides and its own hotel. The rockwork entrance, carved with characters, is impressive even if you skip the rides.

ℹ️ Included in a DisneySea ticket. The rides here usually require a pass obtained through the app after you enter the park; the rules have changed several times, so check the current system.

Mount Prometheus & Mysterious Island, Tokyo Disney Resort

Mount Prometheus & Mysterious Island

The volcano at the centre of DisneySea, which rumbles and erupts in flame, towers over a Jules Verne-inspired caldera housing Journey to the Center of the Earth and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. A Renaissance fortress on its flank is a walk-through play area.

ℹ️ Inside DisneySea. The fortress exploration is free of queues and good for children. Allow 1–2 hours for the area.

Disney Resort Line & Ikspiari, Tokyo Disney Resort

Disney Resort Line & Ikspiari

The monorail with Mickey-shaped windows circles the resort in about 13 minutes, linking Maihama, both parks and the hotels. Ikspiari, beside the station, is a shopping, dining and cinema complex that needs no park ticket.

ℹ️ The monorail is not covered by JR passes or IC-card day passes for Tokyo; single rides cost a few hundred yen, and day passes are sold. Ikspiari is open roughly 10:00–22:00 or later.

Night-time shows, Tokyo Disney Resort

Night-time shows

Each park ends the day with a spectacular: castle projections and the Electrical Parade at Disneyland, and a harbour show of boats, light and fireworks at DisneySea. Short firework displays are held on many nights, weather permitting.

ℹ️ Times vary by season. Some viewing areas require an app entry or a paid pass; elsewhere, people claim spots well in advance. Shows may be cancelled in wind or rain.
