Areas at a glance
- Daiba waterfront: the beach, Statue of Liberty, Aqua City and Decks malls, Fuji TV building.
- Aomi: DiverCity and the Gundam, Miraikan.
- Ariake: Small Worlds, arenas and the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition centre.
- Toyosu: the market, Senkyaku Banrai, teamLab Planets and a large shopping centre.
What has changed
Older guidebooks are out of date here. The Palette Town complex with its giant Ferris wheel and the original teamLab Borderless closed in 2022, and the Oedo Onsen Monogatari bathhouse closed in 2021. For a hot-spring bath, the facility at Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai is the current option.
Eating and drinking
At Toyosu Market the restaurant queues for famous sushi counters start before dawn; lesser-known neighbours serve the same fish with little wait. Senkyaku Banrai is easier for a late breakfast or lunch. In Odaiba the malls’ restaurant floors, many with bridge views, are the practical choice.
Money-saving ideas
- The market, the beach, the Gundam show and the bridge walk are all free.
- Compare a Yurikamome day pass with single fares if you plan three or more rides.
Good to know
The bay is breezy and exposed: bring a layer in winter and sun protection in summer. Large events at Tokyo Big Sight and the arenas can fill trains and hotels — check dates if you plan to stay here.
Sample plans
Half a day
Toyosu Market early, breakfast at Senkyaku Banrai, then a mid-morning slot at teamLab Planets.
One full day
The half-day plan, then the Yurikamome to Odaiba for the Gundam, a museum or the malls, and sunset on the beach facing Rainbow Bridge.
An afternoon and evening
The water bus from Asakusa, a stroll past the Statue of Liberty at dusk, dinner with a view in Aqua City and the Yurikamome back over the lit bridge.
