Shinjuku — Neon nights, tiny bars, a vast garden and Tokyo’s best-connected station.
West & central Tokyo

Shinjuku Tours & Tickets

Shinjuku rewards a guide more than most districts: the best bars have no English sign, and the food alleys are easier with someone who knows where the seats are.

Shinjuku’s experiences fall into three groups: food and bar tours through Omoide Yokocho, Kabukicho and Golden Gai; shows, from sumo demonstrations with retired wrestlers to the famously over-the-top Samurai Restaurant; and hands-on classes such as ramen making. All of the options below are real GetYourGuide listings that we checked in October 2026; prices are indicative and change with the date and exchange rate.

Booking tips

  • Book evening food tours a few days ahead — groups are small and Friday and Saturday slots go first.
  • Sumo shows are not tournaments. The official grand tournaments are held at Ryogoku Kokugikan in January, May and September; the shows here run all year and are aimed at visitors.
  • Eat lightly beforehand: food tours include a full dinner’s worth of dishes.
  • Most activities meet near Shinjuku Station’s east or west exits. The station has more than 200 exits, so check the meeting point on a map and allow 15 extra minutes.
