Season by season
Spring (March–May)
Cherry trees flower along the Ooka River and in Sankeien in late March and early April; roses fill Yamashita Park and the Harbour View Park in May. Ideal walking weather.
Summer (June–August)
Warm evenings on the waterfront, beer gardens and large fireworks displays over the port. Humid, with sea breezes that make it a little more comfortable than inland Tokyo.
Autumn (September–November)
Clear, mild days, autumn colour in Sankeien from late November and a busy calendar of food and beer events at the Red Brick Warehouse, including an Oktoberfest.
Winter (December–February)
The harbour’s lights are at their best: illuminations throughout Minato Mirai, a Christmas market and ice rink at the Red Brick Warehouse, then lion dances for Chinese New Year.

Our advice
Arrive late in the morning and stay until after dark — Yokohama is a city of evening light. For atmosphere, choose a December weekday or the Chinese New Year period; for comfort, May or October.
