Getting to Ueno & Yanaka

Ueno is the first stop in Tokyo for Narita’s fastest train and a major JR hub.

Ueno Station is on the JR Yamanote, Keihin-Tohoku, Utsunomiya and Joban lines and the Tohoku, Hokuriku and other northbound Shinkansen, plus the Ginza and Hibiya subway lines. Keisei-Ueno, a separate station beside the park, is the terminus of the Skyliner. For Yanaka, use Nippori (JR and Keisei) or Sendagi and Nezu on the Chiyoda Line. Fares are approximate; see getting to Tokyo.

Getting around Ueno & Yanaka

On foot: use the JR “Park Exit” for the museums and zoo, and the “Shinobazu” or “Hirokoji” exits for Ameyoko and the pond. From the museums it is a 15–20 minute walk north-west through quiet streets to Yanaka; from there, another 15 minutes to Nezu Shrine.

A good loop: start at Nippori, walk through Yanaka Cemetery to Yanaka Ginza, continue to Nezu Shrine, then cross to Ueno Park and finish at Ameyoko.
